A 13-week contract opportunity is available for an experienced Pharmacy Technician in Sitka, AK, starting March 16. This day shift role supports pharmacists in a hospital setting, utilizing Meditech EMR, and requires a current Alaska Pharmacy Technician license. Travel flexibility is necessary, as the start date depends on timely fingerprint processing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pharmacist activities including interpreting medication orders and performing pharmaceutical calculations
  • Utilize Parata and Pyxis systems to fill, label, and deliver medications to patient care locations
  • Manage pharmacy inventory: order, stock, and replace drugs and supplies
  • Perform equipment maintenance, document unit-specific procedures, and conduct quality assurance activities
  • Clean and restock IV Hood and perform daily pharmacy area cleaning
  • Fill and maintain emergency room Pyxis machines and process controlled substance documentation
  • Assist patients by answering refill requests, triaging questions, and ensuring proper communication
  • Monitor medication storage temperatures and check crash carts for necessary replenishment
  • Maintain a clean and organized pharmacy environment
  • Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid Pharmacy Technician license for the state of Alaska (required)
  • PTCB certification (required)
  • Minimum 5 years of pharmacy experience in hospital, ambulatory clinic, or retail settings
  • Proficiency with pharmaceutical calculations, sterile compounding, and hazardous drug handling
  • Knowledge of drug names, strengths, generic equivalents, pharmacy law, and automated pharmacy equipment
  • Strong communication skills, ability to multitask and prioritize, and capability to mentor coworkers
  • Additional Requirements:

  • Must have current flu vaccination
  • Start date contingent on fingerprint card submission within 2-3 days after appointment scheduling to avoid delays
