A specialty pharmacy management group is seeking a Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) to lead the opening and operation of a brand new specialty pharmacy in Lufkin, TX. This critical onsite role offers the unique opportunity to manage pharmacy build-out, regulatory compliance, insurance contracting, and daily operations from the ground up. The selected candidate will relocate to Lufkin and work closely with specialty care clinics, patients, and providers to optimize medication outcomes and enhance the specialty pharmacy experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the designated Pharmacist-in-Charge, ensuring compliance with all relevant federal and state pharmacy laws, Board of Pharmacy regulations, DEA requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Manage pharmacy licensure, controlled substance oversight, regulatory inspections, and maintain detailed compliance records.
  • Lead daily pharmacy operations to ensure safe, accurate dispensing and clinical protocol adherence.
  • Oversee insurance contract onboarding and collaboration with regulatory bodies.
  • Supervise, train, and support pharmacy staff to maintain high-quality standards and continuing education compliance.
  • Collaborate closely with healthcare providers and clinic staff to support coordinated patient care, including formulary management and medication access.
  • Monitor inventory management, including handling temperature-sensitive drugs and recalls.
  • Participate in strategic planning to support pharmacy growth and specialty service expansion.
  • Act as the clinical expert for patient counseling, therapeutic substitution, and prior authorization review workflows.
  • Desired Qualifications

  • Prior PIC or Pharmacy Manager experience with a focus on outpatient/retail designated specialty pharmacy operations.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent advanced degree with an active, unrestricted Texas pharmacist license in good standing, eligible for PIC designation.
  • Experience with specialty pharmacy workflows, insurance benefits investigation, prior authorization, and patient financial assistance, including composing appeals and advocating for medication access.
  • Proficiency in pharmacy software systems (QS1, PioneerRx, etc.); familiarity with EMR systems (EPIC, Cerner) and specialty pharmacy platforms is a plus.
  • Exceptional organizational, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal skills to work effectively alongside providers and multidisciplinary teams.
