A healthcare facility in Sitka, AK is seeking a skilled Staff Pharmacist for a 13-week contract position starting in late July. This role plays a key part within the pharmacy department to ensure safe, effective, and cost-conscious drug therapy while supporting positive patient outcomes. The pharmacist will prepare and distribute medications in compliance with all federal and state regulations, provide patient counseling, and advise healthcare providers on therapeutic decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense medications according to legal standards
  • Counsel patients on medication use and safety
  • Advise medical, nursing, and village staff on drug therapy
  • Maintain appropriate drug inventory levels
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives
  • Uphold confidentiality and professionalism consistent with service excellence standards
  • Review patient medical histories, labs, and medication orders thoroughly
  • Collaborate effectively with healthcare team members
  • Perform accurate dosage calculations and compounding as needed
  • Adapt to workload changes and emergency requests with sound judgment
  • Qualifications & Experience

  • Pharm.D. degree and active, unrestricted Alaska pharmacist license (pre-2003 Bachelor of Pharmacy with 3 years hospital/clinic pharmacy experience considered)
  • Current Alaska pharmacist license required
  • Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency preferred
  • Hospital pharmacy experience mandatory
  • Must have received flu vaccination prior to start
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong computer proficiency and pharmaceutical knowledge
  • Ability to work independently and make critical decisions
