A specialty pharmacy management group is seeking a dynamic Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) to lead the opening and ongoing operations of a brand-new specialty pharmacy. This direct-hire position is based onsite in Katy, TX, with an anticipated start as soon as possible. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, with schedule details to be determined.

The PIC will play a critical role in managing the pharmacy build-out, securing insurance contracts, and ensuring compliance with Board of Pharmacy regulations, state and federal laws, DEA requirements, and accreditation standards. This leadership role requires proven experience as a Pharmacy Manager or PIC, specifically within outpatient or retail specialty pharmacy settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily pharmacy functions, leading accurate dispensing and patient safety initiatives
  • Serve as the designated PIC responsible for licensure, controlled substances, and regulatory inspections
  • Develop, implement, and enforce policies for prescription processing, drug storage, and security
  • Lead audits and maintain documentation for regulatory and accrediting bodies
  • Supervise, train, and mentor pharmacy staff to uphold quality standards and continuing education
  • Collaborate with clinic providers to optimize specialty medication access and patient care
  • Manage inventory, including temperature-sensitive medications and recall procedures
  • Investigate medication incidents, ensuring documentation and quality improvements
  • Drive strategic growth initiatives and support value-based care efforts
  • Provide clinical expertise with patient counseling, therapeutic substitution, and prior authorization reviews
  • Design and refine workflows across all pharmacy operations
  • Qualifications & Experience:

  • Licensed PharmD or equivalent with an active, unrestricted pharmacist license eligible for PIC designation in Texas
  • Prior outpatient/retail specialty pharmacy experience is essential; inpatient background will not be considered
  • Demonstrated leadership as a PIC or Pharmacy Manager with operational management experience
  • Proficient with pharmacy software (QS1, PioneerRx, ComputerRx, WAM) and ideally familiar with EMR or specialty pharmacy systems
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to compose provider appeal letters
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with providers and interdisciplinary teams
