A travel pharmacist position is available in Sitka, AK, with an immediate start date. This role requires a current Alaska pharmacist license and a flu vaccination.

This role operates within the pharmacy department to ensure safe, effective, and economical drug therapy for patients. Responsibilities include preparing and dispensing medications in compliance with federal and state regulations, counseling patients, advising medical staff, managing drug inventory, and participating in quality improvement initiatives. Independent professional judgment is essential when reviewing prescriptions for safety and appropriateness, providing patient education, and consulting with prescribers. The pharmacist will also perform drug utilization evaluations, contribute to policy development, and document clinical activities thoroughly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review prescriptions for clinical appropriateness, legality, and patient safety.
  • Provide consultation and resolve medication-related concerns with prescribers.
  • Counsel patients on medication use, expected outcomes, and side effects.
  • Verify prescription accuracy and maintain comprehensive records.
  • Conduct medication therapy management and refill chart reviews.
  • Supervise pharmacy support personnel and serve as a role model and educator.
  • Participate in clinical and administrative quality improvement efforts.

  • Qualifications and Experience:

  • Pharm.D. degree or Bachelor of Pharmacy with 3 years hospital/ambulatory clinic experience (for licenses obtained before 2003).
  • Unrestricted pharmacist license in Alaska.
  • Basic Life Support certification for healthcare providers.
  • Completion of an ASHP-recognized pharmacy residency preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical sciences, federal/state pharmacy laws, and medication management.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficient computer skills and mathematical ability for drug calculations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic healthcare environment.
